We all miss live music, I know I do. Throughout the past few months of this pandemic, we’ve seen more virtual performances than we’ve seen in our entire lives. House of Blues in New Orleans started a series in April called For the Culture, which gives local artists a venue to perform again.
September’s artist lineup is for the Queens - it includes a month’s worth of performances from the ladies. One of these queens is Tonya Boyd-Cannon, an incredibly talented soul singer whose stage presence demands your attention from beginning to end. The performance that Tonya gives can only be put on by someone who truly loves what they do - and it’s clear she does.
She performed a medley of covers and original music backed by a live six-piece band and accompanying herself on keyboard. Although born in Mississippi, her song “In New Orleans” truly captures the essence of this city, and after listening, it will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
Tonya’s music is available where ever you stream music. You can find her on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music.
Check out some of the footage I captured of Tonya and her band.
