Megan Thee Stallion set the Smoothie King Center ablaze as she brought her Hot Girl Summer Tour to New Orleans on June 10. The sold out show was the 15th date on Megan’s first ever headlining tour that kicked off in Minneapolis last month.
The New Orleans hotties anxiously awaited the Houston rapper as lines formed outside the arena before doors opened. Fans posed for pictures to commemorate the night donning looks from anime cosplay, western outfits complete with cowboy hats, boots and chaps to Y2K inspired outfits per the Hot Girl Coach’s own instructions to “wear whatever makes you feel good.” Once doors opened, fans rushed in to buy Amazon partnered merchandise including clothing that prominently displays Megan’s photos, trucker hats, bikinis and booty shorts reading “Hottest Ass On Tour.”
The show was scheduled to begin at 8pm. At 8:20, a digital countdown appeared on the big screen to signal the arrival of the opening act - GloRilla. The Memphis native took to the stage accompanied by a group of male and female dancers all wearing yellow EMLINE ensembles from a local New Orleans designer. She performed several of her hits including “Tomorrow 2” and “Yeah Glo!” She closed out her set pretending to play the guitar, a moment she recently went viral for in which she ripped off her wig before exiting the stage.
After the opener’s exit, the stage was set for the headliner and the arena filled to prove its sold out status in anticipation of Thee Houston Hottie. Slowly ascending from under the stage, arose the silhouette of a large curly afro and 5’10” frame (accurately nicknamed “thee stallion”). She held the mic above her head as she belted out the first few bars of her #1 hit HISS as the stage lit in visuals of red and orange flames while the crowd erupted in screams and cheers. Megan made her way to the center of the stage wearing a form fitted snake print red embellished catsuit and heeled booties.
She was handed several bouquets of flowers and gifts from many fans, which she was visibly elated to receive. It was refreshing to see her in such great spirits considering the recently not so good experiences she’d endured.
The stage is made up of two pit areas where a limited amount of fans are able to enjoy the show from the closest view possible. Megan did a great job of fairly splitting her time to give all sections a great view and personal interactions.
She performed several of her songs including "Thot Sh*t," "Megan's Piano"and "Gift & A Curse" while pausing to shake hands, wish happy birthdays and let her audience know that she sees them.
When it came time to perform "BOA", she promised that she wasn't going to get emotional this time, after being brought to tears on stage at the previous show. She kept her promise and got through the song without any tears, and the good vibes kept up all night.
After quick change, she returned to stage in an orange and yellow beaded fringe bodysuit that twinkled each time it caught stage lights with matching knee-high orange heeled boots. Continuing her setlist with songs including "Plan B," "Big Ole Freak" and "Cognac Queen" accented by HBCU majorette style choreography. She flexed incredible stamina, breath control and the famous "Megan knees" and she squatted, twerked, jumped and performed across every inch of the stage while never missing a lyric or an outreached fan's hand. She continued to sign posters, merch and her own NIKE collab shoes that fans handed her from the pit.
She admitted that she was the most excited to come to the part of the show in New Orleans where she gets to bring people up on stage to dance. She chose several fans from the pit, floor area and first seated level to make their way up. A minute later the stage was packed full of excited fans holding out their phones to document the moment of being on stage with Megan. Once they exited, she continued the show by inviting a special guest.
Megan brought out New Orleans bounce artist VickeeLo and they performed their collab "Ride Or Die" before Megan gave VickeeLo center stage to perform on her own while she happily transformed into her background dancer. Megan than invited GloRilla back out to perform their song 'Wanna Be" together, both women exclaiming "Love you, friend!" before GloRilla disappeared off stage.
Megan closes the show with her Grammy-winning Beyonce remixed 2020 hit "Savage" hitting a final power pose from the back of the stage as confetti erupts from cannons covering the arena in pink and orange. Megan makes a heart with her hands as she exclaims "We're at my first toourrrr! I love you Hotties" before saying her final goodnight and exiting the stage.
Megan Thee Stallion's Hot Girl Summer Tour continues in the US through June then heads overseas in July. Her self-titled album "MEGAN" drops June 28.
