The H-Town Hottie Megan Thee Stallion brought the weekend-long Essence Fest to a close as she headlined Sunday night's concert. This year's lineup was an ode to the 50 year anniversary of Hip-Hop, and aside from a surprise performance by New Orleans' own Lil Wayne, Sunday night was for the ladies.
For the grand finale of the weekend's festivities, Megan entered the stage to her sassy, self-aware song "Her" intermingled with a mix of Madonna's 1990 hit "Vogue." She posed and danced to the beat, with her hands and large mane of curls both framing her face wearing a gold sequined bodysuit that showed off her toned physique . Anyone who keeps up with her on social media knows she has the "Hottie Boot Camp" to thank.
She expressed how happy she was to be here and how much she loves coming to New Orleans. "I'm ready to eat, I'm ready to shake my ass, I'm ready to turn up!" And that she did. Megan performs with the energy level and breath control of a highly trained, seasoned performer. In what is perhaps most interesting to notice, she performs alongside a backtrack of herself in which only some of the lyrics are dubbed - almost as if she's her own hype man. Yet she has mastered the timing and flow of it all effortlessly.
Megan performed some tracks from her most recent album "Traumazine" as well as some older classics from her Tina Snow era like "Freak Nasty" and "Big Ole Freak" that her day one fans knew every word to.
In a routine she does every show and says is her favorite part, Megan invited some of the Hotties to join her on stage and dance, but she did have some rules. "You can not get up here acting shy" she warned. "You can not get up here and be on your phone the whole time. And you gotta get up here and throw that ass!" She chose several people from the audience to dance to a few songs with Janelle Monae and the then newly internet famous Flyana Boss among some to take the stage with her.
She closed her set out with a performance of undoubtedly her biggest hit to date, the Beyoncé assisted "Savage Remix." Her single "Girls In The Hood" played as she was joined one final time by her dancers to take a bow and announce "I love you, New Orleans!"
