Lucky Daye Candy Drip Tour New Orleans

New Orleans native Lucky Daye brought his Candy Drip Tour to his hometown with a performance at Joy Theater on April 1.

The line for meet and greet and early entry consisted of many ladies dressed in shades of green, carrying flowers and gifts wrapped around the corner of the venue two hours before doors opened.

Once they were allowed inside, they waited for their chance to meet and have their photo taken with the R&B singer. He entered the room wearing a pink cardigan and sunglasses as he interacted and posed for several photos with each attendee. Doors then opened for general admission and the floor and balcony spaces quickly filled up to capacity proving the show’s sold out status.

Opening for Lucky on tour is R&B singer Joyce Wrice. She entered for her opening song before requesting to start it over because the sound wasn’t right. “I didn’t come all the way to New Orleans for this to not sound right,” she said and she exited stage before quickly returning. “This is Lucky’s hometown!” She sang and performed choreography along with her backup dancers as her hair was blown in the wind provided by the electric fan at center stage. Her set included her songs “Iced Tea,” “Chandler,” “So Sick” and more from her “Overgrown” album.

Lucky Daye’s set began as he sauntered on stage singing his new album’s namesake “Candy Drip” wearing a purple velvet suit and black sunglasses - if you’ve ever been to a Lucky Daye show, you know this would all later come off. He showed off his musicality and skills on the bass while performing “Feels Like” and playing the guitar. There is no shortage of talented musicians on this stage - Lucky’s three piece band made up of Q on drums, Airin on keys and Chris on guitar shined throughout the entire show.

He performed a mix of songs from his new album, as well as old favorites from his debut “Painted.” In the middle of his set, he was joined by Joyce Wrice who returned to perform their collab “Falling In Love.” The two danced flirtatiously across the stage while singing to each other.

Lucky is an interactive performer and his majority female audience was not shy about showing their love in return. A bouquet of flowers was thrown on stage by a fan in the crowd. During his performance of “Real Games,” he invited two ladies to join him on stage who he sang to and danced with. He put on a show of strong vocals and great moves including stage slides that will definitely leave bruises on his knees.

Toward the end of his set, he performed his most popular song “Roll Some Mo” before inviting another lady from the audience to sit onstage alongside him. He sang “Love You Too Much” as he serenaded and twirled her across the stage before having her exit. For his final song, he performed “Over” his first radio hit and recent viral TikTok song. He hops off stage to end the show and touch the people. Hundreds of screaming women grab at him and attempt to record the moment and get individual selfies before he hops back on stage and disappears.

The following afternoon, Lucky Daye was a performer for the March Madness Music Festival at Woldenberg Park. He performed a shortened version of his tour show before having to fly out to Vegas for the GRAMMYs where he won his first for Best Progressive R&B Album for “Table for Two.”
