H.E.R. was featured on the most recent episode of NBC’s “Songland,” a show that pairs songwriters with artists to create their next hit. The four writers perform and pitch their song to the panel made up of the artist and some of the industry’s finest - Ester Dean, Shane McAnally and Ryan Tedder. After selecting three of the four to move forward, the writers work one-on-one with the panel to tweak and perfect the song to match H.E.R.
The song H.E.R. chose to record was Raquel Castro’s “Wrong Places” that received a standing ovation from the panel after her initial pitch performance. You may remember Raquel as the adorable little girl who played Gertie in “Jersey Girl.” Now she’s all grown up and writing beautiful songs. H.E.R. commented that the only thing she wanted to change about the song “will be to make it for me.” Raquel worked with Ryan in the studio and H.E.R. loved the changes they made which led to her selecting that song in the end to record for herself. Songland creates amazing opportunities for these writers. According to H.E.R., “it’s incredible that I can find something that I wouldn’t necessarily thought to create myself.”
