What a year! 2020 is one I know we’ll all be glad to put in our rear view, but this was undoubtedly one of the most memorable years ever. It seems to have flown by. So many major events happened that I’m sure you‘ve forgotten that some of these even occurred. Let’s take a look back at some of those:
It all started in January when the jokes flew about a potential World War III after Trump ordered for the assasinatiom of an Iranian general. This was funny at the time, but little did we know that 2020 would have the last laugh at all of our expenses.
Then we lost the legend Kobe Bryant along with his daughter Gigi and other passengers in a helicopter crash. This was a devastating way to start the year and it was all downhill from there. We lost more people than we could count this year.
Australia was burning and we saw heartbreaking videos across the internet of animals being burned alive and some lucky enough to be rescued from the fires. Talks started circulating about a virus in Wuhan, China and everyone was afraid to even cough, but we still kept moving about as normal. Except people raided the stores and bought up ALL the toilet paper and hand sanitizers.
In March, things started getting really weird. Events were canceled, schools were closing and we all of a sudden had more free time than ever: ebter Tiger King. (Yep, that happened this year) This Netflix series took the Internet by storm. There was so much going on in this show which featured dueling zoo owners, Western music careers, potential murderous wives and a whole lot of animals in captivity. In a nutshell, this show was just as wild as the year turned out to be.
We watched innocent black lives being taken on camera and the ones at fault walking away free. We saw the nation rise up in protest - countless Black Lives Matter marches, signs, riots - the result of a people who are TIRED. 2020 didn’t look much different from the 60s.
The summer saw more and more cancellations as we start to come to the realization that this virus is real and we might not be back to normal for a long time. We see the rise of virtual performances, classrooms and workplaces.
We lost our Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, Alex Trebek, and more notable figures than we can count.
In August, Joe Biden chooses Kamala Harris as his running mate. She will later become the first BLACK female VP. We love to see it.
In November, the nation is pushing everyone to get out and vote for this election. The people showed up in large numbers. There‘s lots of issues with mail in ballots and the postal service as expected, but in the end, Joe Biden is victorious and becomes our new President-Elect.
We’ve had quite the year and we’re glad to put this one behind us. Let us look forward to a brighter future and remember all the lives we lost. Here’s to hoping 2021 is much better for us all. Happy New Year!
